Dr. Oz 3 Day Detox – Recap

Green Tea w/ Lemon

Ingredients: Hot water, green tea, a slice of lemon and 1 packet of Stevia

I generally do not drink green tea so I wanted to see if I would like it and it was ok no real flavor other than the lemon which was good. I was a bit tired from the day before so I was looking forward to some coffee but the tea did the trick.

Tips: Drink the tea first thing in the morning

Breakfast Shake

Ingredients: 1 cup water, 1 Tbsp flax seed, 1 cup raspberries, 1 banana, 1/4 cup spinach, 1 Tbsp almond butter, 2 tsp lemon

The flavor was pretty good and I could see myself drinking this as a normal breakfast shake. You couldnt really taste the spinach since the raspberry flavor is overpowering.  I could not taste the almond butter really. The seeds really do get caught in your teeth so that is something to watch out for.

Tips: Freeze the berries and bring a toothbrush if you are drinking this at work since you will get seeds caught in your teeth.

Lunch Shake

Ingredients: 4 celery stalks, 1 whole cucumber, 1 cup of kale, ½ green apple, ½ lime, coconut oil, almond milk, 1 cup pineapple

So since I am doing this detox with a friend at work we decided to split the lunch shake.  Based on all the blogs that I had read the lunch shake was not going to be my favorite.  I think its because it has celery and it tends to have overpowering flavor.  It was not as bad as I thought but maybe it was because I didnt drink the entire thing.  I had to chew some of it but overall not the worst drink I have had.  I have another friend who is also doing it and the shake caused her to gag so she really hates it.

Tips: Mince the veggies as small as possible and blend them very well.  I could not taste the coconut oil at all.

Snack – Choose your favorite shake

I opted to drink the breakfast shake the first day then I preferred the dinner shake the following 2 days.

Dinner Shake

Ingredients: ½ cup mango, 1 cup blueberries, 1 ½ cup coconut water, 1 cup kale, 1 tbsp. lemon, ¼ avocado, ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper, 1 Tbsp Flax Seeds

After drinking this I think this is my favorite.  I omitted the cayenne pepper since I dont like spicy food and it would have made the drink unappetizing for me.  I would rather not add the cayenne than go hungry.  The blueberries and mango really added a nice sweetness and you could not even taste the kale which I was afraid of.

Tips: If you dont like spicy food just omit the pepper.  Make sure all the fruit is nice and frozen to have a nice frosty drink.  This drink is also kind of large so be prepared.

Detox Ultra Bath

2 ½ cups Epsom salt, 10 drops of lavender oil

I really liked the bath and found it to be soothing.  I generally do not take baths but maybe it was the lavender but it got me to relax plus I was able to read some magazines that I had not been able to get to before.

Detox Summary:

Overall the program was not bad at all.  I was not hungry or crabby more than usual.  I think people around me thought I would go thru some withdrawals but I dont feel any different.  I did lose 5lbs which is AMAZING and I am really happy about that.  I would recommend trying to drink at least half of your body weight in ounces of water to help your body detox.  The program does not state how much water you should drink but that is the amount I used.  I think I will do the detox quarterly to help my body reset.  I know its going to sound a bit TMI but my poop has been better and def more green from all the veggies which is good as well.

Overall I would recommend it to anyone who is feeling a little sluggish and bloated.  Its a bit expensive but worth the time and effort plus you feel better after.
