Travel with a toddler???

Ok so we are going on a big international trip this year and I am freaking out!!!!  We have flown with Eric once and it was to Puerto Rico when he was 12 months.  Going there Eric was ok but coming back was not fun. He is very mobile and wants to get into everything or just explore which wont be possible on a 14 hr plane ride…YES I said 14 hrs!!!  We are going to Asia to see family and I am really not looking forward to this trip.  I dont think they are vacations anymore just trips. So when we were flying back from Puerto Rico it was his dinner time and then bedtime but he did not want to go to sleep and was super cranky. I dont know if his ears were hurting him but all he wanted to do was be on me and not even Daddy could help.  I was super tired and trying to keep him from wailing was just exhausting.  For this trip he has his own seat which is a positive but I am afraid that it will be a nightmare.  Its a night flight so the hope is that he will sleep for at least half of the flight.\

I will be posting about all the things I will probably purchase or plan in advance for this trip in the hopes that maybe someone has a better suggestion or it can help someone else.

Does anyone have any tips that they can share?

We flew to Spain with our 13 mo old who started to walk only a month before our trip. We brought an iPad with games (which were too old for her), used the tv on the seat in front of us, brought food/snacks that she never got to eat at home, etc. We just came back from a 2.5 hour flight and did the same thing (except now at 22 months she was more interested in the iPad games). Oh and we loaded Finding Nemo and Madagascar onto the iPad beforehand.

In February we will have a 5 hour flight to Costa Rica and plan on using the same kind of things to distract her.

He likes the iPad but cannot sit still long enough to watch anything for more than 10 minutes. I am going to bring tons of snacks and little toys that he has never played with and I am hoping that with that and sleeping we should be good for the 14 hrs.
